THE LIFE OF THE ARTIST
BORN in Manitowoc, Wisconsin Began tracing cartoons as soon as I could hold a pencil: drawing and painting constantly. 1972: Attended The Atlanta School of Art under the mentorship of Rita King where I developed the intuitive impulses that guide my hand. 1974-76: Volunteered for several local theatre groups. 1976-77: Traveled Europe for 3 months. Lived on the island of Ios, Greece for 6 months. Painting &reading from October through March. 1978-80: Began exhibiting in arts festivals, cafés, and restaurants. 1980: Moved to Miami, Florida. Won awards in arts festivals. 1983: Back in Atlanta, Georgia. Enrolled in The Portfolio Center commercial art school. And, after 6 months quit school, establishing once and for all my natural instinct for creating original works of art. 1985: Opened Alias Gallery. Including, the framing of fine art. 1991: AIRI, Artists in Residence International, sponsored me for an exhibition in Erlangen, Germany. When I returned, in the winter of '91, I was commissioned by Chateau Elan winery to create a special Christmas wine label for their signature wine. 1992-2016: Taught painting at Callanwolde Fine Art Center. 1995: Moved to Buford, Georgia to recover from an auto accident and joined The Buford Artists Colony. I also volunteered for the Brain Injury Association of Georgia's annual conferences, creating a hands-on art room for conference attendees. Teaching: Acrylic: Painting with Style, Art History: Painting in Styles from Impressionism to the Present and Artists Basic Skills. 25 years of teaching experience.
